Technical Drone Pilot - North West Join The Team at EWD

Engineers With Drones is an Irish owned and Irish based technical drone services company working across energy, construction, infrastructure, land development, and environmental projects.

We are hiring a Technical Drone Pilot based in the North West of Ireland.

Role Overview

As a Technical Drone Pilot you will collect accurate and detailed aerial data for client projects. You will operate advanced UAVs to capture high resolution imagery, video, LiDAR where applicable, and other data for inspections, mapping, and analysis.

Note: This is a technical role. We do not provide aesthetic film work. If your focus is cinematic content this may not be the right fit.

Location Area

This role is based in the North West of Ireland, ideally suited to candidates living within or close to: Galway, Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo, or Roscommon.

Regular travel throughout the region will be required. A clean driving licence and comfort with independent field work are essential.

Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and execute safe and efficient flights for inspections and surveys.
  • Carry out pre-flight checks and follow safety procedures.
  • Capture the required datasets and complete basic field QA.
  • Work with project managers and clients to understand requirements.
  • Create and follow flight plans. Navigate to capture optimal coverage.
  • Monitor weather and airspace. Maintain compliance with regulations.
  • Assist with data offload and initial processing as needed.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and care for UAVs, payloads, and accessories.
  • Keep up to date with regulations and emerging UAV technologies.

Hard Requirements

  • Come from a technical background (Engineering, Surveying etc).
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work alone and get the job done - you will be alone a lot in the field.
  • Problem solving attitude.
  • Availability to travel a lot.
  • Ability to learn new skills fast.
  • Skilled with a computer including a good understanding of spreadsheets - this doesn't just mean making pretty graphs.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills - you will be dealing with clients and the public.

Desirable Attributes

  • Drone license issued by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA).
  • Proven experience as a professional drone pilot.
  • Strong knowledge of aerial surveying techniques, flight planning, and data collection methodologies.
  • Familiarity with surveying and mapping software (e.g., GIS, photogrammetry, LiDAR).
  • Excellent understanding of relevant regulations and safety protocols for drone operations.

Salary, Hours, and Location

Full time. The role will be for 40 hours a week, working on a flexible schedule. We are a small company, so we can be responsive to the needs of our staff as required.

Salary approximately €45k per annum depending on experience.

Work takes place across Ireland with a focus on the North West region.
